A great film directed by Scottish director and CFF former guest, David Mackenzie. When this came out, a friend rang and said, “Wow! David Mackenzie has come of age”. It’s true. I think, as a small nation, we don’t make enough truly good cinematic films. This is one. The whole film offers ample evidence that he has stealthily achieved an unassuming, but utterly genuine, mastery of his craft. Jeff Bridges is extraordinary. An American classic and a CFF Committee choice.
